June is… National Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Month

It’s June and Fresh Rules!

Tooty Fruity Fresh & Fruity! Sweets and pie will make you cry, Fruits and veg give you the edge. Give a hoot, eat more fruit! And the most popular….An Apple a day keeps the doctor away. There are a million slogans and silly sayings about the fact that you should eat more fresh fruit and vegetables, and you know what? They are right!

According to WebMD, adults need between 7-13 cups of produce daily to get all of the health benefits which include protection against obesity, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer. According to the 2015 Study on America’s Consumption of Fruits and Vegetables, American are improving with consuming the recommended amount. Research is projecting that “fruit consumption, excluding juice, is expected to grow by 9% over the next 5 years, and fresh vegetables are expected to grow by 8% overall.” Good Job America!

June 3: AVSC’s Community Pedaleando. This is a FREE, fun family cycle ride (not a race!) from triangle Park in Willits Shopping Center down the Rio Grande Trail to Rock Bottom Ranch. There will be snacks and drinks along the route, along with great prizes to win! For more information Click here.

June 14: Carbondale’s Wednesday Farmer’s Market begins from 10 am to 3 pm

June 17: Aspen’s Saturday Farmer’s Market begins from 8:30 am to 3 pm

June 18: Basalt’s Sunday Farmer’s Market begins from 10 am to 2 pm

June 23: Willits Town Center concerts in Triangle Park begin with Painting the Wind at 6:30-8:00.
